Helping mission-driven organizations see the big picture, uncover meaning in complexity, and design solutions that move their work forward.

HI, I’M EMMA
I’m a program evaluator, grant writer, researcher, and consultant who believes the best work happens through strong relationships.
I founded Ginkgo Leaf Writing & Consulting to support mission-driven organizations in a way that feels collaborative, tailored, and human.
The Story Behind the work
Because who I am—and how I show up—shapes everything I do.
Over the past 15+ years, I’ve helped nonprofits, universities, and public health agencies secure funding, design programs, and measure impact.
I’ve led multi-million-dollar evaluations, guided small nonprofits through big transitions, and presented at state and national events.
Along the way, I’ve learned that clarity and connection matter as much as data and design.
I hold an MPH in Community & Behavioral Health from the University of Iowa and a BA in Psychology from Haverford College.
But what really defines my work is partnership
I bring wisdom, insight, and creativity, while also listening deeply and adapting to what your team needs in the moment. Together, we’ll make the complex clearer, the process lighter, and your mission stronger.
What’s Behind the Logo?

Is it a leaf? Is it a lightbulb?
It’s both AND!
My logo combines the wisdom and resilience of the ginkgo tree with the spark and creativity of a bright idea.
That’s exactly how I approach projects—with one foot rooted in understanding and clarity, and the other leaping toward innovation, design, and new ways to solve problems.
A Little More About Me
I’m part evaluator, part maker, part chaos-coordinator—a nature-loving, craft-obsessed mom who turns muffins upside-down and complex projects right-side-up.
I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains
with my husband and children, where we spend as much time outdoors as possible—camping, hiking, and exploring nature.
At home…
I’m surrounded by my cats and a growing jungle of plants
I love…
cooking and baking, listening to music, and making things by hand—whether it’s knitting, sewing, or building furniture.
Did someone say muffins?
I always eat muffins and cupcakes “”butt””-first. Anyone else, or is it just a me thing?
I grew up on Iowa farmland…
with parents who are poets, bakers, and gardeners, so creativity and resourcefulness are in my roots.
